Week one was full of “brainstorming, thinking, rule reading, and prototyping – lots of prototyping,” according to mentor John.
FIRST Team 1732 is coming close to finishing a robot design, one that we hope will do well in competition!
We capped off the week with our annual brainstorming meeting with engineers at Briggs and Stratton, from whom
we received insightful suggestions and critique.
Week two is already upon us, and we know that it will bring even more progress and opportun
ity to learn!
It’s a new season! January 14, 2012
The 2012 FRC season is underway!
Last week, Team 1732 met with many other area teams at WCTC to watch a NASA broadcast of the new challenge, Rebound Rumble. The game is similar to basketball in th at it involves shooting foam balls into hoops but also involves other elements such as balancing on ramps
at the end of a m
atch for extra points.
Watch the video here.
During Week One, we have been busy brainstorming and prototyping ideas.
We explored m any designs, including
a flywheel shooter
and crab drive.
With a larger team than ever, the shop is always full of discussion and activity!
See ya, Summer… August 24, 2011FIRST Team 1732 participated in the IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational) on July 23-24.
After a solid day and a half of qualification matches, we were astounded to be chosen as the backup robot on the first seeded alliance! We lost in the semifinals but had a good run with Simbotics 1114, HOT 67, and HIGHROLLERS 987. The team had a great time and can’t wait for the next tournament!
Last weekend was the annual student-lead retreat up north.
In between swimming, tubing, and waterskiing on the lake, co-leads Will and Katie facilitated a two day review of the past year and discussion of goals for the coming season.
We came up with many new ideas and are looking forward to implementing them this year.
With the new school year in session, autumn is prime time for 1732 to take advantage of service and outreach opportunities.
Some of the highlights are participating in HarvestFest with teams UPS 1675 and Charger Robotics 537 in September, organizing and running our annual FLL t
ournament in November, and plann
ing open lab projects to begin training for the build season.
There’s a lot to do, but it’s nothing 1732 can’t handle!
MARC Champions! June 29, 2011Over the weekend, FIRST Team 1732 got first place at the Michigan Advanced Robotics Competition! Though the team was disappointed at calling off the side trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park because of unforeseeable weather conditions, the tournament proved to lift everyone’s spirits. Thankfully, there were few technical complications on
the robot, but tough competition made each match a new situation to overcome successfully.
1732 was picked by the second seeded alliance with partners 302 The Lake Orion Dragons, 469 Bloomfield Hills Las Guerrillas, and 2612 Waterford Mott Destroyers.
Each team brought something worthwhile, eventually leading the alliance to victory!
Congratulations Hilltopper Robotics – looking forward to IRI!
The Off-Season June 15, 2011
Even though summer is dubbed the “off-season,” the team has a lot to anticipate and look forward to in the upcoming months.
Right now, preparations for MARC (Michigan Advanced Robotics Competition) are underway – students are busy adding more autonomous modes, updating the minibot, making buttons, and contributing to MARC’s charity events!
This year, MARC promotes breast cancer awareness, so 1732 is donating a gift-basket to the silent auction in hopes that it will raise money that will aid in finding a cure. The competition takes place on June 24-25, but much of the team leave early in order to make the traditional side-trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio.
We are all looking forward to this event!
Additionally, FIRST Team 1732 was invited to compete in the annual IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational) on July 22-23.
This event invites the best FIRST teams in the world, so our team is honored to attend what is called “FIRST’s All-Star Game”! Besides the robot repairs for this tournament, the team will be collecting school supplies to donate to IRI’s annual backpack collection to benefit grade school students in the Indianapolis community.
Competitions are not all that go on during the summer.
Time Warner Cable’s initiative, Connect A Million Minds, asked Will, one of 1732’s co-leads, to represent FIRST in throwing out the first pitch at the Brewers-Cardinals game on Sunday, June 12.
Not only was his ball successful, but Will can say that he threw out the first pitch of the game that put the Brewers in first place!
Much thanks to CaMM for giving us this opportunity.
FIRST Team 1732 can’t wait for this summer’s events!
World Championship Results May 5, 2011Undoubtedly, all the members on FIRST Team 1732 would agree that championships in St. Louis over the past weekend was a great experience. At first, everyone was a little apprehensive due to having an entirely new drive team at the event.
Thankfully, they performed wonderfully and our robot experienced few issues – after a record of 4-6, we were picked by Newton’s second seeded alliance!
Though we lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual New
ton division winners, we had a great run with our alliance partners 1676 The Pascack PI-oneers and 2415 WiredCats.
Competiti on was not all that was going
on in St. Louis. One of our team leaders, Will Pierson, competed for the national Dean’s List Award after becoming a finalist at the Midwest Regional.
The team got to see celebrities like Morgan Freeman and will.i.am and even got to enjoy a private Black Eyed Peas concert!
St. Louis was, undeniably, a great way to cap off the 2010-2011 season.
FIRST Team 1732 thanks everyone for their support and looks forward to the off-season!

We have been busy at work trying to fix and improve our robot for this competition. We are excited as ever getting ready for this experience.
The event will take place April 27-30, 2011 at St.
Louis’s Edward Jones Dome.
We will be competing with over 350 other FRC teams across the world.
We have been placed in the Newton Division, which will allow us to play aga
inst an array of many high caliber teams, including some that we have already played throughout this season.
Here is the team list of all the Newton teams.
For more information on the event please head over to the FIRST Robotics Official Website.
We will keep you posted when the match schedule is released and where you will be able to watch the team by webcast!
Midwest Regional March 28, 2011Over the weekend, Team 1732 had great success at the Midwest Regional!
Despite some technical setbacks, we went 8-2 and became the fifth seed, showing how the tournament was definitely one filled with determination and effort.
Making it to the semi-finals and nearly winning against the eventual champion alliance was exhilarating – much thanks to teams 71 and 45 for being on our alliance!
A great record wasn’t all that the team accomplished.
Our very own Will Pierson, co-team lead and head of the mechanical subteam, became a Dean’ s Li
st finalist! Additionally, the team won the Imagery Award for robot aesthetics and
team appearance. Congratulations Team 1732 and good luck to Will in St.
Louis at the Dean’s List championships ceremony!
