First off, thanks to all those who supported the team this weekend. The team performed extraordinarily in a tournament filled with strong competition. Team 1732 went 4-4 and ended up being picked by the 6th alliance for the eliminations — an alliance which ended up consisting of Team 294, Beach City Robotics from California; Team 1519, Mechanical Mayhem from New Hampshire; and Team 1714, More Robotics from Milwaukee.
We faced the 3rd alliance in the quarterfinals, which proved a difficult four matches. We won the first, lost the second, tied the third, and in the last match our alliance was unfortunately given a red card for aggressive defense, causing us to be disqualified from the match. As a result we were eliminated.
Again, thanks to all the mentors, parents, and students for making this tournament and overall this season an amazing one.

MARC July 3, 2010
Though the 2010 robotics season is long over, Team 1732 Hilltopper Robotics is still very busy in the off-season. Last week, the team traveled to Michigan for MARC, or the Michigan Advanced Robotics Competition, to compete with 41 other teams in a competitive tournament. With a rookie drivetream and expectations to live up to, Team 1732 was picked by the third seated alliance and finished as finalists with partners 2834, 2337, and 503. In overcoming many mechanical challenges at MARC (and in taking a break by going to Cedar Point Amusement Park!) everyone on the team learned a lot from their experiences and had fun at the same time.

FIRST Championship Results May 12, 2010The 2010 official season for Team 1732 has come to a close. In the Curie Division at Atlanta, we were 8th pick and made it to the quarterfinals with our alliance partners, 368 and 1511.
While Atlanta was full of competition, the team managed to take time out for ”Robo-prom,” karaoke, and fun in Centennial Park!

Midwest Regional Champions! March 20, 2010It was the perfect ending to the Midwest Regional Tournament! After finishing Friday as first seed, and with our mentor Scott Keller winning the Woodie Flowers, it was time to get ready for our last two qualification matches.
Upon the conclusion of the qualification matches, we were thrilled to realize we were undefeated and had come out as first seed. We continued this trend through the quarter finals and the semi finals. During the first match of the finals, we were shocked to discover smoke coming out of our robot. Fortunately our alliance partners were able to carry our team to victory in that match.
We were not sure if our robot could hold up for an additional match, and we were concerned when no issue could be identified. We knew that if we won the next match, we would be the regional champions. We determined we had few options, and elected to run with the robot.
This worked out well, and our robot ran with no issues. Our alliance members performed brilliantly and we were able to post up the highest score of the tournament (15 to 5). We were tournament champions!
We would like to thank our alliance members, the Baxter Bomb Squad (Team 16 from Mountain Home HS, Arkansas) and the Flaming Monkeys (Team 3352 from Boon County 4H, Illinois) for their amazing play and teamwork throughout the finals.
We were also fortunate to be recognized in other ways at the tournament. We were awarded the Coopertition(TM) award which “celebrates the team that best demonstrates the ability to help their opponents compete.” This is calculated by the score of the opponents that we defeat in the qualification matches. We also earned the Rockwell Automation ‘Innovation in Control’ award for our kicker design. Finally, Justin Chan, was recognized with the Dean’s List Finalist Award for outstanding student leader.
This has been an exciting time for Team 1732. We have been overwhelmed with our successes these past two weeks. We worked really hard and worked really well as a team, but we never expected to win back-to-back regionals. We are grateful to our schools, our sponsors, our mentors, and our parents for all of their support.
Our next tournament is the World Championships in Atlanta and we are excited to compete with the many teams that will be there.
First Competition Day at the Midwest Regional March 19, 2010

WE’RE THE 2010 WISCONSIN REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!! March 13, 2010That’s right! Our alliance won the Wisconsin Regional!!
First off, a thanks to all that made the Wisconsin Regional a success: the volunteers; the judges; the mentors; the parents; the scouting team; and our alliance partners Team 171, Cheese Curd Herd, and Team 2574, The RoboHuskies.
The elimination matches were filled with drama and stress, as the semi-finals and finals both went into rubber matches (tiebreaker matches). Ultimately, a great alliance with amazing strategy prevailed.
Again, a thanks to everyone for making the regional all that it was. All the hard work this season so far has finally started to pay off. Next stop, the Midwest Regional this upcoming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Chicago!
